Hey Homebodies,
Today, I wanted to take a moment to properly (re)introduce myself and share more about the person behind Homebody Club.
Hello, I'm Lucy
I'm 33 years old, living in Adelaide, South Australia. While many of you know me through Homebody Club's content, there's alot to my story that shapes what I share with you.
Professionally, my background is predominantly in fashion and beauty marketing. Currently, I work part-time in marketing for a software company. I hold a business and marketing degree, which forms one side of my professional identity.
But there's another side that balances this corporate energy. I'm also a certified yoga teacher and have trained in Reiki, EFT and more. This blend of business and spiritual practice has created an interesting duality in how I approach life and content creation.
My health journey
I have shared bits and pieces of my health stuff online, but to start from the start, I've been living with lupus and rheumatoid arthritis since I was diagnosed at age 7. This means I've navigated chronic illness for most of my life - it's all I've known.
Throughout my journey, there have been cycles of severe flare-ups requiring serious interventions like oral chemotherapy treatments. I've participated in clinical trials at hospitals and was once a regular at our state’s Women’s and Children’s Hospital - attending weekly appointments for physio, occupational therapy, hydrotherapy or getting my regular blood or xrays tests.
Currently, my condition is active but relatively under control compared to more severe periods in my past. Managing this health reality has been a constant undercurrent in my life decisions and perspectives including my version of self-care and wellbeing.
One of the most significant impacts was being told it would be very difficult for me to conceive naturally due to my health background. This became a profound motivator in my wellness journey over the past five years, in which I spent $1000s in all different types of specialists, therapies, supplements and medications. My fertility became something I lived and breathed and basically took over my thoughts 24/7.
Recent chapters
The last few years have brought monumental changes. I navigated buying our first home with my husband and then, despite medical predictions, we found out I was pregnant with our beautiful boy who is now the centre of our world.
Successfully carrying a high-risk pregnancy and delivering a healthy baby is something I'm incredibly proud of (and the 25-hour-labour with no epidural 🙃). It represents years of prioritising my health and wellness, not just as self-care, but as a necessary foundation for the life I wanted to create.
Now, I balance working part-time in marketing, full-time motherhood, and growing Homebody Club into something that truly represents this next chapter of my life.
Why this matters
I'm sharing these personal details because I believe context matters. When I talk about wellness, it's not just about aesthetic self-care, it's about the practices that have helped me manage chronic illness and create the family and life I was told might not be possible.
When I discuss motherhood, it's through the lens of someone who deeply appreciates this gift that I thought I may never have.
And when I explore the balance of work, creativity, and family life, it's as someone who has learned to navigate having limited energy while maximising meaningful impact.
I hope that by sharing more of my story, you'll have a deeper understanding of the perspective behind Homebody Club's content.
Where Homebody Club is going
As I evolve, so does Homebody Club. Moving forward, you'll see content centred around five key areas that reflect my current journey:
🫶 Mindful moments and simple joys - finding presence and appreciation in everyday moments, recognising that life's richness often exists in small, quiet experiences we must intentionally notice.
♾️ Family connection - nurturing relationships and creating meaningful experiences that strengthen our bonds and create lasting memories.
🥼 Personal expression - style as authentic self-expression across fashion, home, and personal aesthetics that evolves with life. Practical yet personal choices in clothing, interiors, beauty, and objects that tell your story (and drawing on my 10+ years in the fashion industry).
🙏 Holistic wellbeing - sustainable self-care practices that support resilience and joy.
⚡️ Mother-led business - building work that honours our values, lifestyle and family priorities, including talking strategy and behind-the-scenes of this Substack and content creation.
To the community
I want to take a moment to express my deep gratitude to this community that has supported me for the past 7 years. Through all the different iterations of Homebody Club, through all the changes and evolutions, you've been there, and I truly appreciate all the support you've shown.
And to the new community, welcome! I hope you enjoy your time in this little nook of the internet.
Homebody Club has always been a reflection of my life, my experiences, and my learnings. I've always tried to live by the philosophy of ‘teach from the scar, not the wound’ - sharing insights from healed experiences rather than raw pain. This approach has guided how and when I choose to be vulnerable with you.
This evolution is simply a continuation of that journey. It's about growing while living in motherhood, but intertwining it with all other aspects of my life because that's what my reality is now. Motherhood is woven into everything I do, every single second of every single day. It doesn't exist in isolation; it colours every experience, decision, and perspective.
💬 A simple request from you…
As Homebody Club continues to evolve, I'd love to hear from you. What aspects of these content areas resonate most with your own journey? What challenges are you currently facing? Your insights will help shape the content I create.
Thank you for being here, for your continued support, and for growing alongside me.
P.S. If you know someone who might resonate with Homebody Club, I'd be so grateful if you shared this post with them. Sometimes the right words find us exactly when we need them most.
